The Sport segment of the 12 part portfolio we've been assigned this semester is perhaps the most exciting segment of them all to me. outside of uni sport and portraiture are pretty much my forte and so i'm excited to get out to see various sports and capture some gripping action shots.
So far i have one shoot lined up which may even cover other areas of the brief such as group shots and lit environmental portraits. I've arranged to photograph the Volley ball teams at their next match however no date has been booked thus far.
Volley ball to me sounds like the perfect sport for action shots because of the constant jumping and diving that goes on and the highly expressive faces of the players. For this shoot i'm hoping to shoot low down and capture the moments where the players dive to the sand and dig the ball as they force sand to spray all over. this shot would be great as it would be highly dramatic and the timing would need to be impeccable therefore it would be a great achievement for me and a great addition to my portfolio. other shots could include taller shots of the players spiking the ball over the net and the teams working together in the fast way that they do.
For the volley ball match i intend to shoot on my 18-140mm lens aswell as a 300mm which would allow me to get some tighter shots of the action although the court isn't that big a 140mm may still feel restricting.
Im also in the process of trying to organize shoots with BMX racers and the FXU Tridents (american football team). the tridents are largely a back up simply because of how late the next game is with it being mid November its definitely not ideal despite how great the shots i could achieve there would be.
