Lottie was completely different. the content provided on the powerpoint seemed not to be a random compilation of the images she had captured throughout her career but they told a story. i found it interesting to see the various types of work that she had created and where these personal projects had led. it proved to me that the ideas which i often brush off because i cant see an audience are often some of the ideas which will bring you the most work in the future. I think that some of the advice which was given is some of the most helpful so far for example, the methods which lottie has used to make her way into the industry through small projects and working as an assistant etc, this is a realistic model which i feel any budding photographer could roughly follow to a degree and find some sort of success.

Lottie Davies
Lottie Davies was our guest lecture a few days ago and i found this to be one of the best ones weve had so far. many of the guest lectures simply show us too many images to process before promoting their latest book and giving us some information that often times wont apply to us until we actually have a name within the industry.
Feedback
So the first term ended and i recently got my feedback which i am to take into account and further improve my work, this post is really just a document that compiles all of this feedback so that i can easily look back and remind myself of the areas i need to work on.
The first piece of feedback which is quite clear is that i need to work on a calibrated monitor as the images that i have produced, many of them are either too dark from post production or have colour casts which diminish how effective the images are. Working on a calibrated monitor would allow me to accurately see the images with a realistic representation of colour and tones.
I also need to consider my lighting more so that i can produce images which are not only composed correctly but also have an aesthetic and effective quality of light so that my semiotics can be more accurately expressed.
In terms of my presentation skills i am in need of some great improvements which i knew right from the get go that this was the case.
My interaction with the audience was minimal, my thoughts were all over the place and the presentation lacked pace and effective delivery. the information was all there it was just the way that i presented the information which was flawed and so this is an area i need to work on and practice.
When it came to my professional studies i feel i did pretty good however i received some confusing feedback regarding my bio which states that i need to have a third person bio in the about me section. the about me section of my website has always been third person and so this is something which i need to ask about. other than that the main thing i need to look at is my CV the language used within my CV could be tightened up little to ensure i can get the most out of the things i have put on it.
I have also been informed of some typos within my website. i will strive to fix this as son as possible.

PEP 160
.
I am really excited for this new assignment which we have been given around the production of an editorial piece.
4 client specific projects one of which is to be my self directed piece which is also to be used in PEP 140.
This is the direction i feel i will go once i complete this course and move into the real world and so i find this interesting while giving me a chance to experiment with my content and find my niche'.
I am a lover of magazines and so there are so many that spring to mind when i begin trying to find the magazines which interest me for this piece however when looking at magazines that might suit the area of photography that i enjoy i find it much easier to narrow down.
Motorcycle news is a must for me i am an avid lover of the motor sport world and regularly read this magazine/paper which covers everything motorbike related that is happening in the industry.
Aswell as loving to read about and watch motorcycles one of my most captured subjects is motorcycles therefore i will definitely be looking at this magazine for PEP 160

Although i read national geographic magazine almost every month and it would be a dream of mine to one day work for them i do not think that for this assignment i will be looking at this magazine as it is too obvious and shall not push me beyond my comfort zone.
Being a man im sure there must be something in the male magazines such as GQ magazine that i would find interesting enough to pursue working for. This magazine focuses on men and the trends and topics which most men would find either relatable or interesting to read about such as Fashion, lifestyle, grooming, news and culture

I will be looking at much smaller produced magazines and online publications as i continue my research into this topic, i intend to look at things such as Pighouse Pictures because of its focus on images within its content.
Plymouth 24hr shoot
With Plymouth only a couple of weeks away i have been conducting some research into the city and some of the things around it. So far my ideas for the 5 images are very limited as research is one area in which i need to improve and become more proficient.
While studying this town which i have never been to or known anything about iv'e noticed there is quite a long coastline. There is an island just off this coast and as expected there is a ferry which runs between the island and the city this could be part of one of my ideas. i could contact the ferry and see if they would be interested in having capture some images of exactly what they do and the narrative that lays within their work. This could work for a 5 image story about Plymouth as this ferry is important for the tourism within Plymouth.
I also found that there is an old lighthouse on the coastline of Plymouth. this probably doesn't have enough potential content to work for a 5 picture story however it is just a thought ive had while conducting my research.
Iv'e considered looking into getting access to the coastguard and spending time capturing their work however i do not feel that this is really a piece that would highlight Plymouth therefore i am unlikely to pursue this direction.
I am certain that there are many more ideas that will come to me over these next few weeks as i continue my search for content and so i shall produce another blog post regarding any more ideas which may come to me.

The relationship Idea generation
The relationship
Since researching countless photographers and art works centered around relationship i have a few ideas on how i might go about shooting this assignment.
My first idea is to create a set of 5 images which follow a pair of brothers hrough " a day in the life" this would create a set theme and a sense of consistency throughout my images while still providing me with the opportunity to capture 5 different relationship that the brothers may come across throughout a day.
for example my images my be something like this:

for example my images my be something like this:
- brotherhood
- one of the bothers with his girlfriend
- brothers spending time with friends
- one of the brothers conversing with a shop owner they see regularly
- spending time with a pet
For this idea i already have permission from my friends which are twins and so i will be shooting this within the up coming weeks.
My second idea is more simple and would simply comprise of 5 images which capture the relationship that people have with their pets. taking inspiration fro john liot's dogs of Falmouth i would be capturing not only the dogs but also the owners and the connection which they share.
for this idea i would have to take to the streets and push my self out of my comfort zone.

To sea again: Faraz PJ
So recently i was conducting research into relationships and the different types of relationships that can be found all around us which make for an interesting photo essay.
I stumbled across a piece that was captured in my home town Grimsby. To sea again by Faraz PJ takes a peak at the lives of the fisherman who once prospered in the worlds largest fishing port that i myself call home. The piece delves deep into the east marsh estate in an area of grimsby many will avoid for fear of the own safety and damage to their propery however what Faraz has found in this area is the part charity run building named "the square" where the ex-fisherman live out the rest of their lives with very little money. However it is not the back story that i find most intriguing about this piece of work but the relationships that can be seen depicted on each image.
The age old friendships captured bring character to the images and add a sense of humor and life to an image that would otherwise be quite dark and serious when a viewer understands the narrative behind the image.
the images and full story can be found in the link below :

Seacole: Chris Killip
Between 1983 and 1984 Chris Killip visited a small community several times in order to document their activities. When Killip arrived at Lynemouth in the north east side of the UK he discovered a close knit, hardworking community that was making a living from collecting the coal found along the coastline and selling it.
Killips images focus not only on the manual labor but also the families, the children and the life style that they had built for them selves. The images depict relationships and just how reliant the community is on one another. The depictions in Seacole portray the relationship the workers have with their horses and the roles that they each play as they carry out the miserable and laboring work.
Some of the images which i felt were interesting where the ones which looked away from the action and focused back onto the families with depictions of the workers spending time with their children along with the establishing images of hovels and caravans in which they lived. As poor as they may have been the images of the children are all very positive showing the children performing for the camera and laughing as they do so.
The diverse range of relationships within this photo book are what bind it all together and the story of the seacole has been clearly demonstrated.
Further more i find this work to be of great inspiration for my own project that is to be based around relationships. If i were not to focus on workers then their are still some fantastic aspects of the work that i could translate into almost any documentary piece.

Party Zone
On the 20th January 2017 "Party Zone" Falmouth's only fancy dress shop is closing its doors for the final time. After 8 years Lawrence Fenton has made the decision to close the store as it is no longer deemed profitable.
For the past 8 years Party Zone has had steady business supported by the booming student presence that has only increased in recent years. Mr Fenton told me that it wasn't the lack of customers that forced this decision but instead the drastic fluctuation in business rates put in place by the Cornwall council
.With a steady increase in previous years the rates took a massive step forward for 2017 increasing the costs from £27,000 to £31,000 meaning that the business would be paying almost £1000 per week just to simply keep its doors open.
With court cases being cancelled left right and center Mr Fenton concluded that the closure of the store is the best option at this time and has a sale on all through the week up until its closure date on the 20th
.Mr Fenton said "With the massive hikes in business rates it wont be long before shops on the high street will be a thing of the past especially in small towns such as Falmouth where the revenue is reliant on the students which in recent times haven't been staying during the holiday months"
